As part of the Digital India program, the Government of India aims at making the country ‘paperless and cashless’. The program encourages people to use online/digital methods of payment like banking cards, USSD, AEPS, mobile wallets, UPI, banks pre-paid cards, point of sale, internet banking, mobile banking and micro ATMs.
BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited), the only government owned Telecommunications Company in support of making India a cashless economy enables its subscribers to make BSNL online payment for using different services of the company. BSNL provides fixed line telephony to about 60% of the market in India. It also provides mobile phone services, broadband services, internet television and IPTV services within the geographical boundaries of the country.
BSNL online payments can be done from the official brand website of the company or from the website of a third party facilitator also called resellers. Paytm, Phonepe and Mobikwik are few of the popular resellers in India. These resellers also have their mobile Apps that can be downloaded on the smartphone devices in order to make payments.
Making BSNL online payments using the BSNL website is pretty easy. The user needs to click on the link ‘Pay My Bills’. There are two options to choose from: –
- Landline/Broadband bills Mobile/WLL/WIMAX bills
Other than facilitating BSNL online payments, the website also provides information about the customer care centers; recharge options for mobile phones, landline and broadband, international Wi-Fi and roaming and also enquiry options for new connection.
In few simple steps, subscribers can successfully pay their bills online, whether using the parent company portal or a reseller site. The subscriber would need to choose the relevant region where he is based and provide information of his connection number, for example the mobile number in case of BSNL online payments of post paid mobile connection. He would then be asked to enter the amount of his pending bill. After this the system would ask him to choose his preferred mode of payment – he can choose between paying with credit card, debit card, bank transfer or e-wallet. Whichever method he chooses, he will be asked to provide personal information like in case of payment via debit or credit card, he will be asked to furnish his card number, expiry, CVV number and name of the cardholder. In case of bank transfer, he will be prompted for his banking details like customer id/account number and password. After providing this information, he would need to wait for less than a minute to receive a confirmation of the payment or a failure of the transaction.
